A practical directory of official application channels, document guidance and public registers for preparing an investment residence file.
Key considerations
- Download forms and instructions from the issuing authority.
- Check the relevant procedure before using an application or renewal portal.
- Keep the version, date and submission receipt for every important document.
Start with the official ARI guidance
AIMA’s investment residence page is the main starting point for route information and supporting documents. Select the guidance for the investment actually being relied upon. A fund subscription, cultural contribution and business investment require different evidence, even where parts of the applicant’s personal file overlap.
Read the ARI frequently asked questions alongside the route guidance. They address practical matters such as applicants and representatives, documents, payment, scheduling and portal use. An answer concerning a particular recovery exercise or application stage should not be treated as a general rule for every file.
Application and renewal channels
Follow AIMA’s official link to the Portal ARI for the procedure it identifies. A portal registration is an administrative step; it is not a residence authorisation, a decision on investment eligibility or a guarantee of an appointment.
For a renewal, first consult AIMA’s current instructions for the relevant permit and expiry date. Online channels can change. Keep a copy of the submitted documents, payment reference, receipt and any notification, and distinguish a saved draft from a completed submission.
Recognition, legalisation and translation
Use AIMA’s recognition of documents guidance before ordering certificates, legalisation or translations. The required formalities can depend on the issuing country, the document and the procedure. A translated document and an authenticated or legalised document serve different evidential purposes.
Prepare a document register showing who issued each item, when it was issued, its expiry or accepted age, the original language and the formalities completed. Resolve variations in names and dates before submission. Retain originals where the authority may require them and use the instructions for the actual file rather than a generic checklist.
Official fees and payment references
The AIMA fee table separates administrative acts. Locate the entry for the specific ARI act and any applicable distinctions, rather than using the fee for another residence category. Confirm the current version when payment becomes due.
A government fee is separate from the qualifying investment, a fund charge, a translation bill or a professional’s fee. Check the recipient and payment reference against the official procedure. An invoice from a private professional is not a payment receipt issued by AIMA.
Fund and manager information
The government service directory links to CMVM information on funds and asset management. Available categories include fund information, costs, unit values and portfolio disclosures. The CMVM’s authorised entity information helps establish whether the proposed service provider is authorised or registered for the relevant activity.
Match the full legal name of the fund and manager, rather than a marketing name alone. Request the governing documents and relevant disclosures from the professional responsible. Regulatory status and immigration eligibility require separate analysis; this directory is not a list of approved Golden Visa investments.
